Peace and calm… the feeling I had all during reading this beautiful book. So well written and so thought-provoking. A relaxing get-a-way from everyday life.

Kevin knows the heart of a pilgrim. He has a huge one. He has been sharing it with all of us through his podcast Sacred Steps. His new book, The Pilgrims Table invites you to take a seat at Matthieu’s table along with 4 other pilgrims. It is beautifully written and it shows the souls of 5 humans through their seat at the end and yet the beginning of their own Camino. I start my first journey in September and I was drawn to their life stories and what they learned. If you long for a Camino, read Kevin’s book and then anticipate the next one in 2027 with me!

The Pilgrim’s Table is a novel that weaves together beautiful writing, vivid characters, a sense of place, and an engrossing story. If you have walked a Camino, you will recognize and relate to the pilgrims and their personal struggles and how coming together can be so healing. If you haven’t this is a realistic picture of what the Camino is like and how it becomes such an important part of people’s lives. I found the story and characters riveting and I eagerly await the next book in this series. Highly recommended.

The Pilgrim’s table is not a book I would normally pick up, as it falls outside my usual genres, but I’m glad I did!It tells a story of deep connections formed between strangers and the openness to oneself and others that can emerge on the Camino, where barriers are broken down kilometer by kilometer. In a world marked by division, this book was a refreshing reminder of our shared humanity. It was also beautifully descriptive, transporting you to Spain and into the walking shoes of these pilgrims.Who knows, maybe one day, I’ll go on my own Camino…

A beautiful, heartfelt and ultimately hopeful book. I highly recommend it - not just to anyone who has dreamed of walking the Camino, but to anyone who has ever wondered whether it is too late to take a new path. I couldn’t put it down.

Matthieu Dubois reached the summit of his profession and found nothing there worth keeping. A decorated chef in Geneva, he caught sight of his own face in a sheet of polished steel one bad night and understood he had climbed the wrong mountain.

His grandmother, who walked the Camino in her youth, sends him to Spain with a few quiet words and an old kitchen knife. He goes to watch the pilgrims arrive, with no intention of becoming one.

What he finds at the end of the road is a cold parish house on a granite spit, a hundred-year-old table that has heard every word a village ever needed to say, and a hearth that has not been lit in years.

The Pilgrim’s Hearth is the story of the man who relit it.
