THE PILGRIM'S TABLE

Some journeys change your destination.

Others change you.

On an October evening in Muxía, Spain – the place medievals called “the end of the world” – five strangers arrive separately at a pilgrim inn. A Boston woman who has just walked 1,600 kilometers away from a 23-year marriage.

A young man, eight months sober, finishing his Camino on a bus. A Canadian couple on their fourth Camino, contemplating retirement and what matters most. A Spanish teacher carrying her dead brother’s stone. Their host, a French chef who escaped corporate kitchens, has never walked the Camino himself.

A communal meal at the end of their journey leads to laughter, confessions, and unexpected grace.

It’s a story about the challenges we carry, the questions we haven’t answered, and the strangers who sometimes see us best.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Husband. Father. Backpacker. Pilgrim. Author.

Author Kevin Donahue began walking pilgrimage routes across Europe, the United Kingdom, and the U.S.A. in 2019. The host of the Sacred Steps Podcast, his work reflects a deep belief that the most meaningful journeys are measured not in miles but in the lives impacted.

Donahue's first novel, The Pilgrim's Table, debuted as both a #1 New Release and a #1 Best Seller on Amazon for Religious Travel. The book follows five pilgrims across the Camino de Santiago towards a communal meal on Spain's westernmost coast. What begins as a polite conversation over dinner deepens into laughter, confession, and unexpected grace. One by one, they realize their separate journeys have been asking similar questions all along. Not what have you accomplished? But who are you becoming? By dawn, the pilgrims will discover that the hardest part of any journey is not the walking. It's what comes after.

The second book in the Camino Chronicles series, The Pilgrim’s Letter, is planned for February 2027 with a third to follow by December 2027.

Kevin lives in Florida with his wife, son, and their two beagles, Otis and Larry.

It's not the steps - but the love at the end that makes your camino

The author takes the focus off the walking and onto the meal at the end of the walk - a fascinating premise that works out well. An evocative book that leaves you steeped in the world of the camino, and pilgrims, via a single meal.

Your Camino begins with this book!

Kevin knows the heart of a pilgrim. He has a huge one. He has been sharing it with all of us through his podcast Sacred Steps. His new book, The Pilgrims Table invites you to take a seat at Matthieu’s table along with 4 other pilgrims. It is beautifully written and it shows the souls of 5 humans through their seat at the end and yet the beginning of their own Camino. I start my first journey in September and I was drawn to their life stories and what they learned. If you long for a Camino, read Kevin’s book and then anticipate the next one in 2027 with me!

    Inspirational read!

The Pilgrim's Table hooked me instantly. By the end of the opening chapter, I was already pulling up my chair wanting seconds!!After having a bit of a reading lull this year, this book instantly rekindled my excitement! I was especially drawn in by the author’s vivid, intimate descriptions of small details—the kind that make you feel fully immersed in each room and every character’s journey. As I read, I found myself pausing frequently, wondering: Did the author eat this meal? Walk this path? Hang his shell here?It was an absolute joy from start to finish, and it has genuinely inspired me to start planning my own Camino—perhaps in 2027 or 2028.Bravo!

    An outstanding Camino novel

The Pilgrim’s Table is a novel that weaves together beautiful writing, vivid characters, a sense of place, and an engrossing story. If you have walked a Camino, you will recognize and relate to the pilgrims and their personal struggles and how coming together can be so healing. If you haven’t this is a realistic picture of what the Camino is like and how it becomes such an important part of people’s lives. I found the story and characters riveting and I eagerly await the next book in this series. Highly recommended.
